As depressing as it is, American youth are not preforming good in many standard school subjects. We all remember the valiaum crusader for geographical education, the indeflatable Miss Teen South Carolina. Here is a glimpse of one of the misdirected youth that caused such a strong, yet completely warranted response from the beauty queen.
The young person in this film doesn't even know where Paraguay is. Or Jabooty (sp?), for that matter. If that is in fact a real country (which I highly doubt), our kids need to know where it is. We are all on the fast track to economic ruin if we can't teach our kids to do better than this.
P.S. I'd like to see this kid point out the different countries in real life, not just on a map. While flying over them in an airplane, for instance. Not so easy without borders or color coding, is it?

Don't believe everything you see on YouTube. Notice that the map is conveniently out of focus, so there is no real way to verify that she is pointing at the correct country. As for the easy countries (the United States, Canada, and Mexico), how do we know that she isn't reading the map? I'm sure the print on those countries is big enough for even her to see at a glance. Any way, who really cares about all those other countries any way. Why would anyone want to go there? With the exception of some european countries, most people don't speak English, which tells you right away how important they are, and those who do learn English, speak it with funny accents. I'm sure most people will agree with me that the only country really worth knowing about is the United States, and by default you have to know about Mexico, because they keep trying to screw up the U.S. and Canada wishes it were the U.S. and its citizens sometimes fool other nationalities into thinking they are American, so you have to watch out for them too. Other than that, there isn't much of interest out there. Now, if you want to be popular on YouTube for knowing a bunch of worthless junk, go ahead and teach your kids where all those countries are. Good luck getting anyone to believe you. This is 2007 after all and the internet has been around for a long, long time, so we aren't as gullible as we used to be.

Kids are like dogs. At least young dogs that is. You can always teach them great tricks. I can't wait to teach Suede to roll over... oh wait, got that one covered. The only tricks worthwhile are those that make your life easier, like changing their own diapers. Now that would be impressive. Let's see that 2 year old do that! Right now I'm satisfied with the fact that we've taught Suede to put the plug in her mouth so we don't have to get up in the night to find it. One trick at a time to a genius child. We're on our way!

I could not stop watching that movie...I watched the whole 37 minutes (or however long it was, it felt like forever!)...even when I wanted to stop I couldn't, I just had to see where her little, "fat finger"(as peter would put it) was going to point to next!
